BORYANA POPOVA began violin studies at age six, and soon after attended the State Music School in Varna, Bulgaria. Upon graduation, she was accepted to the National Music Academy in Sofia, where she completed her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in violin performance with honors.
While in Sofia, Boryana often performed as soloist, in numerous chamber music ensembles and with several orchestras, including appearances at:
- the Varna Summer Music Festival,
- Sofia Spring Contemporary Music Festival,
- and Pianissimo Music Festival.
She was selected as a principal second violinist for the Italian Music Festival Pergine Spettacolo Aperto for three consecutive years and also performed in master classes led by Frederic Pellasy (France), Evelio Tieles (Cuba), and Alberto Martini (Italy).
After she arrived in the US in 2007, Boryana completed her Masters degree at UCLA in 2009 and in 2012 she completed her DMA studies under the instruction of Professors Movses Pogossian and Guillaume Sutre. At UCLA she has participated in master classes with Stuart Canin, Ani Kavafian, Anne-Akiko Meyers, Martin Chalifour, Mark Robertson, David Low, Renaud Capucon, and the Borromeo String Quartet, among others, and is also a member of a Gluck Foundation String Quartet.
In November 2007, Boryana was awarded a UCLA Mimi Feldman Scholarship and in 2008 was awarded its Mo Ostin scholarship. She has performed at:

- Fox Theater Riverside,
- Getty Center, Royce Hall,
- Zipper Hall, Schoenberg Hall,
- Fowler Museum,
- the UCLA Reagan Medical Center,
- NOKIA Theater,
- Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.
Boryana also currently works as a freelance musician in Los Angeles, where she has performed with several orchestras such as: Santa Monica Symphony, American Youth Symphony, Debut, LA Jewish Symphony, Corona Symphony, Pacific Opera Project, Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Culver City Chamber Orchestra. Boryana is a regular member of Mozart Classical Orchestra, LA Dream Orchestra, and Pacific Opera Project.
As a member of several bands, Boryana has performed at the Viper Room, Roxy, Largo, and Hollywood Cafe Hotel. In November 2011, Boryana performed at Royce Hall as a concertmaster of the UCLA Philharmonia for the jazz legend Kenny Burrell's 80th Birthday Celebration, together with BB King, Stevie Wonder, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Boryana is a regular member Boryana was fortunate to perform with artists such as Natalie Cole, OneRepublic, John Cale, Marco Antonio Solis, among others.
In the summer of 2012 Boryana performed together with the UCLA Camarades ensemble and the Boromeo String Quartet at the Italian Chamber music festival Incontri inTerra di Siena in the beautiful Tuscany.
She was also a member of the Balkan Wedding Band, a band based at UCLA, specifically oriented in performing Bulgarian folk music. Boryana plays on a violin provided by Kathi Haine, and bow provided by the Maestro Foundation.
